Rapid and robust parameter inference for binary mergers

چکیده
The detection rate for compact binary mergers has grown as the sensitivity of global network ground based gravitational wave detectors improved, now reaching stage where robust automation analyses is essential. Automated low-latency algorithms have been developed that send out alerts when candidate signals are detected. include sky maps to facilitate electromagnetic follow-up observations, along with probabilities system might contain a neutron star, and hence be more likely generate an counterpart. Data quality issues, such loud noise transients (glitches), can adversely affect algorithms, causing false alarms throwing off parameter estimation. Here new analysis method presented against glitches, capable producing fully Bayesian inference, including mass estimates, in matter minutes. Key elements wavelet-based de-noising, penalized maximization likelihood during initial search, rapid localization using precomputed inner products, heterodyned likelihoods full inference.

Efficient and Robust Parameter Tuning for Heuristic Algorithms
The main advantage of heuristic or metaheuristic algorithms compared to exact optimization methods is their ability in handling large-scale instances within a reasonable time, albeit at the expense of losing a guarantee for achieving the optimal solution. Therefore, metaheuristic techniques are appropriate choices for solving NP-hard problems to near optimality. Since the parameters of heuristi...
متن کاملBlack hole binary mergers
I overview the current understanding of the evolution of massive black hole (MBH) binaries in the center of the host stellar system. One of the main questions is whether the stellar dynamical effect can make the MBH binary hard enough that they can merge through gravitational wave radiation. So far, theories and numerical simulations suggested otherwize, since the hardening timescale becomes ve...
متن کاملBinary Neutron Star Mergers
We review the current status of studies of the coalescence of binary neutron star systems. We begin with a discussion of the formation channels of merging binaries and we discuss the most recent theoretical predictions for merger rates. Next, we turn to the quasi-equilibrium formalisms that are used to study binaries prior to the merger phase and to generate initial data for fully dynamical sim...
متن کاملBinary black hole mergers
www.physicstoday.org After decades of effort, numerical relativists can now simulate the inspiral and merger of two black holes orbiting each other. That computational triumph has come none too soon—physicists are on the verge of detecting gravitational waves for the first time, and at long last they know what to look for. Black holes are strong-field objects whose properties are governed by Ei...
